Team building and strategy implementation in procurement for a fossil-free future
Our challenge
“Fossil free living within one generation”. Vattenfall aims to be a fossil-free energy provider in one generation. It is not only the processes and products that need to be adapted to this, but also the way the Group’s purchasing department works. But what exactly does this mean for the company’s procurement team, how can it make the corporate vision a success and what exactly needs to be done to achieve this? The Vattenfall Wind Procurement team has not been able to meet live in the previous two years, so the focus is not only on strategic issues but also on strengthening the team spirit.
Our solution
In a team meeting that takes place live in Denmark over 24 hours, we derive the strategy for the purchasing area: What can the Wind Procurement team contribute to making the Vattenfall strategy a success? 50 colleagues meet and exchange ideas in several rounds of workshops. After the Head of Procurement has explained the most important pillars of the strategy, each individual’s contribution is discussed. Internal moderators lead the meeting and repeatedly engage in dialogue.
We first explore the personal strengths of the group, then the potential wishes of the target group, before finally deriving specific measures for the day-to-day work of the purchasing department. Instead of frontal lectures, we use transferable team-building elements: the group builds a chain reaction together, exchanges ideas in tandems during a walk and playfully reflects on their personal superpowers.
Our success
After the two-day meeting, all purchasing employees have a clear understanding of the strategy. There is a genuine and appreciative exchange with colleagues on site, which further welds the team together. The participants have explored their own strengths and those of the procurement team, transferred tangible results into their day-to-day work and are now equipped for procurement in a fossil-free future.
